RE: Outsourcing (was IS Assets)

My experience is that outsourcing projects is pretty safe and cost
effective.  We had to move and we hired a company to be project manager on
the move.  It worked out great.  All of the wiring was done, the UPS's were
in place...and overall nice experience.
We also outsource programming projects.  Currently we are doing a VB
project.  We have an internal programmer that coordinates but most of the
code is written off site.  Same thing with Web design.  Another thing we
outsource is network monitoring.  We don't run 24X7 but our network does, so
Lucent keeps an eye on it for us.
I agree with another "caller" that strategic stuff needs to stay inside but
the rest could be outsourced.  An example might be operations.  I know a lot
of big shops use IBM and other companies to do system operations like
backups, monitoring, maintenance, etc.
