For the unitiated, there are several of these projects currently running world wide. See http://www.distributed.net for another (more successfull) example. (check out the RC5-64 Stats for lbolhui@ibm.net - that guy is doing pretty well!) Their goal is to break (crack) encryption keys by brute force using all those computers over the internet and they have several victories already. Other projects are GIMPS (Great Internet Mersenne Prime Number Search) working on calculating bigger Mersenne prime numbers (the largest is currently over 2 million digits long and was found on a PC!!). PiHex which is calculating ever more accurate levels if Pi. And of course there is the calculation of Optimal Golumb Rulers (don't even ask!). So far I can't get Distributed.Net to do an AS/400 client but I have volunteered to help them do one. It runs in C++ so how tough can that be!! ;-] - Larry David Gibbs wrote: > > Folks: > > The SETI@home project is working on porting their client software to the > AS/400!!! > > Check out http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/unix.html > <http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/unix.html> > > For those of you not aware, the SETI@home project is using a distributed > computing model to search for Extra-terrestrial intelligence by sending data > to participants home computers to be processed. > > david > > -- > > David Gibbs > Sr. Software Engineer > Mortice Kern Systems US, Inc. > 2500 S.
