Your suggestions have helped greatly in my search for a solution.  Thanks!!

I ended up looping on QSYSOPR to find the specific *INQ message the program
had sent.  Where I get into trouble is when I try to receive a specific
message.  The problem is the msg key from the SNDPGMMSG cmd refers to the
sender's copy, not the actual *INQ message.  The only way to get the key of
a specific *INQ message is to read *INQ messages from the msgq until you
find the msg you want.  Not something I want to do against QSYSOPR, but I
don't have any choice.

The following works for me:

             KEYVAR(&keyvar) MSG(&MSG)

SNDPGMMSG  MSG('Got msg: ' *CAT &MSG)

SNDRPY     MSGKEY(&KEYVAR) MSGQ(FRED) RPY('Some Reply') +
             RMV(*NO)



It hangs waiting for an inquiry message in message queue FRED.  When 
the message arrives, it responds with "Some Reply".

I do a SNDMSG MSG(ASDF) TOMSGQ(FRED) MSGTYPE(*INQ)

and get back in the msgq:

From  . . . :   BOBC           08/10/99   14:18:19
   ASDF
     Reply . . :   Some Reply

Am I missing something?
