Did a similar review a couple of years ago for a former employer and no longer have my notes on the subject, but here's what I remember. I looked at see you've got suggestions to look at OS Director (Hi Pete) and OS Solutions. I also got info at the time from Robot (I can't remember which module it was) and from others. I found most of the companies by reading the ads in the various midrange magazines and by checking out the vendor expo at COMMON. The mags have web sites, you can also search there - try various keywords like DASD, dick, storage, archive, objects, reports, etc. I got different results with different keywords. Every vendor I talked to offered a free trial period, and this is probably still true. In the end, my employer decided to keep the utilities I had already written for them, and I updated some. The additional functionality in the commercially available utilities wasn't worth the additional cost to them. However, every case is different, based on requirements, and what my employer decided may not be true for you. Looking for the ability to archive "old" objects to tape based on a particular date of the customers choosing. Also need to be able to exclude libraries and gen reports of objects archived/deleted. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
