Your point is well taken...The tools certainly do have limitations...But it is the lesser of evils if you are not in a position to scratch load the system.  That is why we brought in a test AS/400 for Y2K.  Each time an application is ready for testing, we do a scratch install to prep the machine and have it ready for the next round of testing.  By my count, we have done at least 14 so far this year....Will not miss that workload at all!  :-)

No matter how controlled it is, you should not change the date forward if
you cannot do a scratch reload when  you are finished.  You should consider
some type of tool that will let you do future date testing without changing
the system date if you cannot do a scratch reload of both systems.
