| Yes,
the change I described is in the Global Address Book. I am not sure what you
mean by setting remote sales reps up with Notes Mail and an ISP when they are
using Outlook now. We are using Outlook, Lotus Mail, and a few other POP
clients, but not regular Notes clients as a rule. We have considered changing
this, but haven't yet. Anyway, attachments work fine for what we are
doing.   Good
luck, Bob
  Bob,
Thanks for your response.  I'm guessing this change needs to be made
by the administrator at the Global Address Book level?  If so, this would
be a very short term solution albeit a good one for some.  Guess I'm
looking for a "longer-short-term" solution that could have employees
distinguish between local and remote and do appropriate forwarding.  If
all else fails, we could setup some of our remote salesreps (with dial-up
Internet access), currently on Outlook, with Notes mail accounts and forward
to ISP accounts, thereby off-loading some of the current burden on RAS.
I realize there would be some limitations in receiving text only (i.e. cannot
take advantage of full Notes Mail capabilities, doc links, etc.) but what
  about attachments?
   Thanks again!

I just went through the process
of setting a person up to do this on Domino 4.62b about 3 days ago. It
worked fine if I just put the user address in the forward field of the
address book. I know I have had trouble with this in the past, but it worked
fine this time. If I can do it, there can't be much to it because I am
pretty much a rookie at Domino and AS/400! I would not want to do this very
often, or very long as a general practice. But short term, why
    not?Bob

Has anyone used/considered using Notes SMTP foreign domain setup
to forward internal employee's Notes Mail to their external ISP
      account?
Ex.  Internal employee with local Notes mail and dial-up Internet
      account.
Domain setup with mail routing to employee's ISP's Mail/Client vs. local
      Notes ClientWe are
considering this as a possible quick, low cost alternative in providing
remote mail to employees with dial-up Internet accounts (vs. expanding
current RAS system to accommodate).  Realize there is still more
research to do to see if possible to have local receipt when attached to
network vs. remote receipt when dialed into ISP.Any additional security or other reasons why a company might not
      want to do this?Thank
  you! |
