The best way to to this is a D-IPL (initialize the system). This will wipe
all the data from your drives. The first thing the system will do is writing
0's all over the load source drive and since the AS/400 is a single level
storage machine the data will be gone, you can count on that. After that the
As/400 will install LIC and will ipl to DST. Next the drives you are going
to add will be cleared in the same way. Then install the OS and take it from
there.
Make sure you make a backup (two) and you should be all set...Look in the
backup and recovery guide..

Subject: Format DASD?

I have a system that needs to be 'wiped clean' and I do not see the best way
to
do this. Is there a way to 'format' the drive so that I can do a fresh
install
of OS/400 and be rid of all the old libs, usrprfs, docs, etc.?

Thanks!

Jessica
