• Subject: DASD clearing, "Killing" an AS/400

Eric:

Yes...a hacker can read this and find out how to "kill" an AS/400. Of
course, the hacker would have to either be a security officer, have
physical access including DST, or know a bunch of cryptology and MI
programming.

Frankly, one of the older IBM manuals provided a method to destroy the
operating system as a normal part of the CE's job. (It still works!) This
has since been removed but a knowledgable user with *ALLOBJ can really kill
the system.

My concern about security and hacking the AS/400 is no longer focussed on
IBM nor on the publications in this list...It really is focussed on the
sloppy software vendors who give the public *ALL authority to files,
*ALLOBJ authority to a group profile, and/or sign on as security officer
with default passwords, etc.
