I use a freeware scree capture program called PrintKey that allows you to
crop the image and play with colors or capture the screen as greyscale and
do reverse image.  It seems very well behaved, and the price is right.

I'm pretty sure I downloaded it from zdnet.  Haven't gotten to use it as
much as I'd like, we have a new shop standard mandating text only screen
captures in documentation.  If you would like to try that, copy whatever
portion of the screen you need to  the clip board and create a style in your
word processor that creates a text box with whatever border you want and
paste your clipboard contents into the text box.    Rationale for this is
that it's easier to keep up with screen changes--you can edit the screen
image in your word processor.  I like the graphic image, but...
