Jon, I think everyone should have the AS/400 firewall soloution. That way I
will not be the only fool to have this POC product <VBG). IBM sold me how
easy it would be to configure and to maintain and that has been a lie of
satan. I have had it since V4R1 and every upgrade I have problems with it
and have to call support to get rid of the demon.I was down for two weeks
without email when ran the email server on the AS/400 but now we have an
external mail server. Some information that IBM does not tell you is when
you AS/400 being road hard by users your firewall takes a back seat. If you
take your system down you have no access to the internet and in my case to
email. I am now looking at two products 1) Watchguard Live Security System
and 2) Fort Knox Policy Router. They both look good and I do not have to be
a Unix person to operate them.

Hi y'all,

We are looking at giving access to our AS/400 via the web and wondered what
options the rest of you are using.

For a variety of reasons we don't want to run the 400 firewall.  We are
currently playing with a Linux box but configuring it is, ....... well
primitive
is the only polite word that comes to mind.  I've found some Linux firewall
software that looks good but am not wild about the $3,000 price tag.
Alternatives include "appliance" solutions or (I guess) paying someone to
set up
the Linux box for us.

So, what are you using - what are the costs, how long did it take to set it
up,
etc.

Any and all help gratefully received.
