Yeah a couple of guys at work are interested in hacking , fortunatly not
much interest in the AS/400 itself apart from the usual  DST etc --more
into Private networks and cell phones etc.They personaly own aboubt 10k
worth of scanners and special cell phone decoders which reads the mins or
something.
You cant buy this stuff in the USA because of the laws over there.In AU and
NZ you can get
most of this equipment off the shelf or ex Mil .
