Just to be absolutely sure you know where the error is, have you two 
swapped seats?  Does the problem stay on the workstation or travel with 
the user?  Just to be really sure, try having him log in at your machine 
and you type the check number, and vice-versa?  Try all four permutations; 
I'd bet the problem narrows down as a result.
