Gary:
This may be a very basic question, but are you sure the multi tech modem you
are using supports SYNC rather than ASYNC comms? I'd try another modem just
to see if the problem is the modem (or modem cfg) or somewhere else. If you
have a UDS V3229, 3400 or 3600 around, set the modem to factory option set 9
and you will be all set.

Subject: ECS doesen't work

It seams as though I am experiencing an ECS problem. The ECS line on
this 9401 150 has never been used. When I try to SNDPTFORD THE
modem never dials out. I don't see anything relating to this in the joblog,
dsplog, QCMN joglog, QLUS joblog or in the QSYSARB* joblogs. The
modem (MultiTech MT2834BA) never gets a TR light on. When I try
SNDSRVRQS *TEST it stays Input Inhibit with "Connecting to remote
system - please wait" for ever. No lights on the modem change. If I call
qtiinstl it doesn't give me an error message and nothing seems to happen.
The only thing in the job log is the call. If I do a WRKHDWPRD with a 4
for display it shows the QESLINE is in card position 1B port 1. QESLINE
has a resource name of CMN03. If I do a WRKHDWRSC *CMN it shows
CMN03 as V.24 port Frame ID 1 card position 1B. The cable is plugged
into the back of the 400 facing the back the second row from the bottom
on the left with cable number 44h7480. I have tried the switches on this
modem two ways.
1up2up3dn4through 10up 11dn12through16up
or
1up2up3dn4dn5through7up8&9dn10up11dn12through15up16dn
neither way gives me a TR light. MultiTech says I have to have a TR light
for auto answer to be on. I realize I don't need auto answer for ECS.
The fact is I can't get the modem to recognize the AS/400. For people
that aren't familiar with the MultiTech it should work identical to the IBM
modem. MultiTech makes the IBM modems. The only difference is the
MultiTech modems are cheaper and faster. I'm on V4R4 with the latest
cum and the latest hypers.
I would certainly appreciate any hints for me to solve this.

TIA,
Gary Kuznitz
