BLOB

I finally have a perceived need for BLOB fields.  I want to create a database 
with the item number and a drawing of the item.  Then I intend on using LEI to 
pump the data into Notes.  (Although the message "Error: Invalid data type for 
field 'BLOB',  Connector 'rob',  Method -Select-" has me a little concerned.)  
Anyways let's say I get this to work.  How do I get data into the BLOB field?  
For example let's say that I have the drawing in the IFS as a *.bmp file.
