I haven't evaluated *calc. But the conventional wisdom is to yank the cord, or
turn
the breaker off, to your ups. Most UPS' will give you an estimate of how long
the
battery will last. Best to let this happen for 10 minutes or so. Sometimes
the energy
left calculation is less than accurate at first. ALWAYS kick QUPSDLYTIM up to
huge
prior to beginning this test. After the conclusion of this test you then need
to
subtract the time the system needs to bring itself down. I am not very good at
disclaimers so I will not help out with that variable (SAFETY).
QUPSDLYTIM=upslength - SAFETY.

Also, make sure you don't have crud plugged into your ups. We have a fella in
our
department who's been in IS since the First Coming. Got bent that his PC
dropped
during 5 second power outages. Stopped happing after I removed his electric
heater
from his UPS.

I've got what is probably a rookie question. What should this system value
QUPSDLYTIM
be set at. Ours is set at 1200 seconds. What do I gain or lose by setting it
to *calc.

Thanks
