After awhile doesn't it seem like we're splitting hairs? Everything said is probably technically correct. However, can you imagine trying to explain this to your CEO after either all of your 400 data is fried, or much damage has been done from an item stored on the AS/400's disk to several PC's in your organization? jlangston@conexfreight.com on 12/27/99 01:41:19 PM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com@Internet To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com@Internet cc: Fax to: Subject: Re: VIRUS Alert for the LIST "L. How about a microsoft macro attacking AS/400 files via >ODBC or modifying > devds to shut down TCP/IP? Well, if a Microsoft macro is attacking the AS/400, the AS/400 is being effected by the virus, but is not the host of it. Any virus that attacks a PC can totally wipe out your AS/400, true. Such as deleting the library QSYS. But the AS/400 is not hosting the viruses. Although if the files are stored on an AS/400 stored drive, it is kinda iffy. The virus is stored on the AS/400, but the AS/400, in this case, is just being used for DASD. Any DASD can store viruses, I don't think there is any way around that. They are just not processed on the AS/400. You still need a PC to activate them.
