Eric, you say the files are identical excepting for the data? In that
case wouldn't the READE fail to retrieve data as there is no identical
data? What happens if you use READ?

May we assume the files are keyed in like fashion, too? If so, for your
compare why not process the files with InputPrimary and InputSecondary
with MR on the key fields? The files will then feed the records in from
the two files in key field sequence from the files. Of course you can get
fancier with the MR indicators but that would be a sort of heresy I
suppose.

        Subject: File Compare Routine

I am writing a file comparison routine to determine the differences
between two files. The two files are identical with the exception of the
data. I am attempting to use external data structures. FILEA is a
physical file, FILEB is a logical (over FILEX (which is not included in
the program)). The data structures are described as follows:

D DS4111 E DS EXTNAME(FILEA)
D DS4114 E DS EXTNAME(FILEB)
D PREFIX($)

FILE is read and DS4111 is populated. I then do a SETLL and READE on
FILEB, the indicator signifies a match, but DS4114 never gets populated.

I have scoured the manuals, but I do not see what the problem is. Any
assistance is appeciated.

Thank you,

Eric Kempter
