Are you saying that your company has made more money because of an ecommmerce web site than they would have made anyway. To me ecommerce/internet only offers one new thing to mail order companies, that the catalogue/brochure is online. Apart from that, and the collection of customer information, does it really offer anything new over telephone ordering/mail order? -----Original Message----- From: Joel Fritz [mailto:JFritz@sharperimage.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 25, 2000 4:47 PM To: 'MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com' Subject: RE: AS/6000 I would suggest that my employer (shameless plug) and other catalogers who have web sites have made money taking orders on the internet and will make more. Companies in the mail order business already have most of the infrastructure required for doing business on the internet. It's just another way of taking orders. BTW, we're not planning on dumping our AS/400. We use it to process and fulfil the orders, not to mention a few other little things necessary to run the business. > -----Original Message----- > From: Pat Barber [mailto:MBOCEANSIDE@postoffice.worldnet.att.net] > Sent: Friday, January 21, 2000 11:33 AM > To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > Subject: Re: AS/6000 > > ***************** BIG Snip ****************************************** > What was the last company you heard of that made "1" dime on > E-commerce > ?? > > Call State Farm,Allstate,Farmers Insurance companies and ask them when > they > plan on changing their thousands of AS/400's to a more hip > machine with > snazzy applications that their people will like better. > > Try to keep things in perspective and you'll be fine. > > Just my grumpy opinion. > +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
