RE: OPNQRYF questions...

The book "Open Query File Magic!" by Ted Hold (Midrange Computing) I found
to be good at explaining OPNQRYF.

To answer your questions:
1. It sounds like you would need to run a series of work files:
OPNQRYF on FILE1, store results in WORK1
OPNQRYF on WORK1, store results in WORK2...
until you get the query results you want. 

I have not found a need to do this unless I run out of room on the 3000+
position QRYSLT parameter. And this can be alleviated in part by using
mapped fields.

2. The opened file (from which OPNQRYF selects records) is specified on the
FORMAT keyword. 

I have samples of both, email me privately.
