%size returns the defined length of a field, not the length of the 
contents.  As I recall from other discussions (may be from RPG400-L) the 
value %size returns is determined at compile time, not run time.

Depending on what version you have, you might be able to use the %len 
bif.  Otherwise, try doing a CHECKR for *blank.  That will give you the 
right most position that does not contain a blank.
