Calling something ONLY a router is probably a bit simplistic.  With the
rich function included in many of today's routers, there is a fair amount
of overlap between functions provided by routers and functions provided by
firewalls.  The key question you need to ask is what kind of
protection/insulation do you need between your AS/400 and the rest of the
world?  What levels of risks are you willing to live with, and which ones
do you need to actively protect your AS/400 from?  You should view the
withdrawal of IBM's firewall as a chance to step back and do an overall
assessment of your network security and needs.  Using an appropriately
configured router might be adequate in your situation, but PLEASE take the
time to think through your exposures!

Is anyone using ONLY a router (Cisco) to protect their AS400 running
Domino as a web server? With the withdrawal of IBM's firewall, we're
getting some recommendation to use just the router. Is this feasible?

Comments, experiences, etc.?
