In the Connecticut area, as well as many other areas, many companies will snatch-up junior programmers who know and understand how to use RPG. They can take those individuals and grow them. How much experience do you need, depends on the position you are looking for? For an operator, knowing the basic commands, and how to navigate around the machine is all you need. For a beginning RPG programmer, knowing the syntax, the opcodes, how to read someone elses code, and some good logical thinking, and you have a programmer who can make $32,000 to $35,000. Not too bad coming out of school. Now, put in 1 years work (a good solid year of programming, and learning new things), and you have an individual who can earn about $45,000. This is not bad for 1 year out of school. Now, different areas of the country will have different salary structures. So, you will need to adjust these salary amounts accordingly, but that is the MAKEMONEY command for a 22-23 year old coming out of college.
