This is IBM's intent to milk the cash cow of 5250 for every drop 
they can get, while still keeping the 400 looking sexy for C/S.  
One of the rags coined this the tax on 5250.

May I make a suggestion?  Why not browser versus Client/Server?  
Easier to maintain and distribute.  Easier to bring internet/extranet 
people into the fold.  With that in mind, a better bang for the 
buck of training dollars.  One argument has been that C/S can be 
more productive for the heads down keyer.  Frankly, nothing beats 
5250, but, I think browser based applications have improved vastly 
over the years to close the gap on C/S.

Hi everybody,
I was checking prices for an AS/400 with my configurator, and it seems that
IBM is trying to kill Green screen applications on the AS/400.  Why do I
think that? Check out the prices by CPW on an AS/400 720, Processor 2062 -
420CPW Batch & 1503 - 240 CPW.

According the prices on my configurator,  I found this:

9406 - 720 AS400 e Server
US$ 27000
2062           Model 720 Processor (256 Mb) 420 CPW          US$ 20000
                    Total
US$ 47000
                    CPW Value
US$ 111.90

1503          Interactive Card (240 CPW)
US$ 155000
                   CPW   Value
US$   645.83

This is almost 6 times the CPW value between Interactive and Batch.

So, I'm already thinking about changing all my applications to C/S and run
everything in Batch.  No more Green Screen.

What do you think about it?
