Chris, There is an area of IBM Partner World for Developers run by Masakatsu Yasui which addresses Japanese DBCS issues. He is developing documentation on porting to Japanese on the AS/400. I have included a copy of one of his e-mails. I am interested in doing Japanese localization as contract work over the internet. I have some knowledge of the Japanese language and I know the AS/400 well but it would take me some research to begin actually doing the localization. Bill Brekke www.brekkeresearch.com yasui@us.ibm.com To those who are interested in DBCS, Today Section 7 "Porting from the Other Platform" has been appended. There will be two aspects in this project - porting to AS/400, and DBCS enablement. Porting information is already available on the URL (http://www.as400.ibm.com/developer/porting/index.html), but it will not be effective to take these two steps to achieve AS/400 DBCS. Instead my discussion point is to take one step approach deploying Unicode (UCS-2) technology, and Java or C/C++ languages are assumed. Your questions or comments are most welcomed. Please check out the URL ( http://www.as400.ibm.com/developer/dbcs/guide.html). These Japanese/Greek users will only use a package that caters for those alphabets. However... we are unable to get clear answers from other software suppliers as to whether their software will continue to operate successfully. Do we need to recompile the programs or will they just adjust automatically so that our existing English language applications continue as normal. Any advice gratefully recieved.
