Presumably when u say non DDS'ed u mean internally described.
The obvious option is to split the main field up using SST (substring)
command in dds.
only problem is all fields will be char & you will have to de-code packed
fields in your program.
Not very neat I have to say.
Any one any better suggestions ?

A FIELD1 R I SST(FIELD 1 4)
A FIELD2 R I SST(FIELD 5 2)
etc
A K FIELD1
