The subfile data is probably from an earlier set of records. I'd guess that you've cleared the subfile but by turning the SFLDSP indicator off (as you're required to do if the subfile is empty), but have not cleared the display. Try writing a record in the subfile area that says something like "(No records found that match the selection criteria.)", and then exfmt the control record with SFLDSP off. It works for me.
