A good standard is to only initialise tapes once, when you buy them and use
a unique numerical ID.

The use SEQNBR(1) CLEAR(*ALL) on the 1st save command and just CLEAR(*ALL)
on subsequent save commands in your CL and you won't have any problems.

Subject: Unattended SAVE with INZTAP

Hello:

We have an Unattended Save that takes place nightly and weekly. However, if
the operator forgets to initialize one of the tapes a message is sent to
QSYSOPR (CPA4278) indicating an active file on the tape. However, no one is
here to give a reply.

Since our save takes up to four tapes, is there a way to initialize each
tape before their use within a CL Program?

I know I can initialize the first tape -- how do I account for the rest?

Regards,

Jerry Crabtree
