Create a Native LF over the S36 flat file using SST (sub string) to define each fields. Only problem is with packed fields. Also all fields become alpha, no numeric. The other option is to write an RPG to select and translate the records from the flat file to a Native work file that you then translate. One other approach is to write parsing macros in Excel. I cannot transfer the s36 files from the AS400 to a spreadsheet as it reads each record as one field. Has anybody managed to do this Regards Conor Farrell +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
