who knows?  it could be anything from a perception that the as/400 was
legacy to a programmer wanting a new toy to play with, and telling
management a job couldn't be done, to an application written for the
rs/6000 that they wanted.  or maybe anger over subscription fees,
upgrade prices, or something like that.  i've seen people get angry over
sometimes the most trivial items, and make far reaching decisions.

our ce (from ibm) was out the other day, and was talking about the
different products ibm has, and he said he really disliked the rs/6000,
that it was prone to getting corrupted, giving out false hardware
errors, and the only way to fix it was a complete scratch and reload. 
he said that the as/400 was the best box ibm makes.
