Title: RE: Is Ops Navigator slow for others too?
Pascal,

Don't apologize for stating your opinion.  Your arguments make great sense.  It's nice to have people that can speak there minds.  We all have different opinions and likings.  You don't have to follow the crowd.  It's much more exciting to be a leader.  :)

I grew up with windoze as well.  I learned the AS/400 green screen commands and was begging for GUI as well.  Then something clicked and it wasn't so hard to see the way the commands on the AS/400 were designed.  It takes time to learn anything.  My folks finally bought their first PC and are stumbing around with windows as we speak.  So, it takes time to learn either windoze or command line.

GUI is an improvement only in the eye of the beholder.  Linux and BSD are the best examples.  I enjoy command line, whether it's dos or AS/400 or anything else.  I don't know why... I just do.  :)

Thanks for your thoughts.. keep them coming.  Remember, only you can change your mind, and you need not apologize for sharing your thoughts because they are yours.  :)

Brad, you're good at greens? good then but my point was that new programmers like me are more performant on a window based environment than on a green screen, we're already used to the windows environment, but we still have a lot to learn on Green screens.  I understood the logic of AS400 through the OpsNav.  I could finally try things just like I used to do on my windows workstation.  Before that I was just a dumb programmer on AS400 that had no idea what he was doing with that RPG thing.

IBM is making a good move, THEY'RE IMPROVING.
I know I'm new in this world, but I think I'm the kind of customers that IBM want to get attention from.
And BTW your example of Windows with DOS was just too good!
If you like it, well, keep it !!

Well it was the first time I tell what I think about this green war, and I won't say it again...

Thansk anyway Brad for your interventions, and John, too you two guys are good to be read.

apologies all...

>>Well I think it's time for you all green-screen eaters to change your
point of view and enter into the second millenium, hey guys it's graphic
era, you all look like those people who are still listening to baseball game
on radio instead of watching it in colors with all the information you need
right there on the screen.  And this is intended for IBM too!!<<

Graphical era?  What does that mean?  We are too stupid to read and we need
pictures?  (Hyroglyphs I belive they were called in Neal Stephenson's "The
Diamond Age").
I listen to Bruce Williams on the radio.  But, he is pre-empted by Twins and
Timberwolves games.  The Radio station says they are listened to a lot and
it will always be that way (which I don't like).  Nothing wrong with
listening on the radio.  You can use your imagination.

>>I say more graphical access and give up the green screens!!!  Anyway, SEU
is no more updated, hear that? it's dead and gone!!  what is the future of
SDA and RLU?? with CODE400 you can say goodbye to them...<<

It's not dead.  It's no longer updated.  Why?  It's pretty darned good as
is.
It is my humble opinion, if some of you disagree, I respect your opinions
too.  All I wanted to do is to open the eyes of some of you to the new era
of GUIs on AS400.

>>It's profitable for all of us.  In terms of saving time and money spent on
application development and technical support.<<

Developing GUIs is profitable because it takes more time and maintenance
because of the platform required (ie PCs).  But, I want to make sure it
works first.  Not against GUI, but just like Java hypers, I am against
people who hype and spew this out without thinking about what they are
saying first.  Even if they are just trolling.
