Title: Web programming
Bonjour Pascal,

Two good books that I have read and can personally recommend are e-RPG by Brad Stone and e-Business with an As/400 by Bob Cancilla.

Brads tact is straight CGI programming with ILE-RPG (which I prefer) and Bobs tact is Net.Data. Brad's book will get you programming CGI much quicker than Bob's, but Bob's book goes into more detail regarding the whole WWW experience.

I have been experimenting with both types of venues and because I have been programming HTML and RPG for a long time I like Brad's approach. According to IBM stats straight CGI vs. Net.Data is about twice as fast.

Brad has examples at netshare400.com and Bob has examples at ignite400.org. The Net.Data forum at IBM is good also. Both individuals should be applauded in promoting web serving on the AS/400.

Personally I think AS/400 based web serving could be launched to a higher level if more individuals would share their code.

Bob Cancilla claims to be able to build web based screens at the rate of 1 per day. I feel the same for straight CGI.

I hope this helps!

Jay

Subject: Web programming

Anybody know a good book at IBM library to start programming and serving web applications on AS400?

And I'm looking for an UML designer software anybody knows a good one?

Since I know that IBM is rewriting CODE400 and visual RPG, I'm a little embarrassed with this because I'v tried the latest version, and I wasn't satisfied at all, especially about the CODE daemon which was causing big problems.  So Im looking for some other development tool that would at least provide a the ability to convert 5250 screens into HTML, XML, Jservlets or JSP.  Any kind of interface that is readable from a web Browser.

For those who wants details here it is:

FROM :

Operating System : OS/400 V4R4M0
Original application business logic language: RPGIII, RPGII
Original application user interface : DSPF, CMD, CL, PRTF

TO :

Operating system : OS/400, WindozeNT(the least possible)
Web Server : AS/400e 720
Web application server : Websphere?
Business logic client side : JSP?, ASP?, servlets?, XML?, HTML?, etc.. (you tell me)
Business logic server side : ILE RPG?, JAVA? (you tell me)

Thanks,  if need more informations please feel free to contact me by e-mail, not by the list.
