Just glanced at your web site and I'm assuming it's a native AS/400 product. The article in "Software Development" dealt with the problems involved in converting applications for NT or UNIX that, among other things, depended on pointers having a particular size or write to explicit addresses (seems to me xB800 was the 8086 address for the monochrome graphics adapter).
