V3R2 of CA should come with your new 400, along with CA/Express. Be careful in your ordering. Go line and read the Software installation for V4R5. There are some additional programs of CA you want. However, if you don't want to wait... Check your original installation media. I am not sure when IBM started shipping CA320. I forget the process to upgrade. I am wondering if you had to delete/reinstall, and then load the latest service pack on. The latest service pack for CA320 is SF62608. Any others? And not a separately licensed product? 4) One month into the job and already I feel powerful! When I interviewed, I was told "No need to upgrade. Don't need RPG-IV." Now, we've got a new big 400 coming (well, the budget's there) and I've been given the go-ahead to do limited RPG-IV programming (for Sockets and for one new app that does massive, complex string handling and parsing). How does one upgrade from V3R1M2 to V3R2M0? I went to IBM's CA website and could find nothing on that. Is it free? Downloadable? If for any _good_ reason (not because you said so <g>), it's because IBM still supports V3R2M0. ----------------- Original Message ----------------- 1) Get out of the V3R2/V3R7 environment. 2) There are no advantages to using CA Express versus CA Win95/NT in the above environment. In fact, you'll have problems, shared folders will no longer work. 3) Item 2 leads into this item. CA Express no longer has the ability to map a drive, nor map a printer to a 400 printer. These were replaced by Net Server. This is a fine thing. We have people with PC's that do not have any CA on them but they are now able to map drives. The printer mapping is not such a big thing in our environment. We have just 1 twinax printer that I know of. And it is only used about every other month. 4) In your case I would strongly recommend item 1. If that is not feasible then look elsewhere for a job. If that is not feasible then you may want to upgrade your CA312 to CA320. If for no good reason other than I said so. Eric mentioned that V4R3 was the starting point for Netserver... but also added that CA Express uses Netserver, hence my original question. I am currently using the CA Win95 V3R1M2 package and I have the ability to map a PC drive to the AS/400 (V3R2). Is this Netserver? TIA, Dan Bale IT - AS/400 Handleman Company 248-362-4400 Ext. 4952 ----------------- Original Message ----------------- Ron, Starting in V4R3, you can start netserver to share folders/directories/libraries/printers/etc. This feature makes the AS400 available to Network Neighborhood as if the AS400 was a Windows server. Works like a charm. As a matter of fact, if you're using CA Express, you're already using netserver, since there is NO shared folder support in Express. hth, eric.delong@pmsi-services.com ___________________________ Reply Separator ___________________________ Subject: AS400 - PC without Client Access Author: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> at INET_WACO Date: 10/5/00 8:09 AM Hi All, We have a requirement to pass files from the 400 directly to PC's (and back) without using Client Access (or Express). We know we could use FTP but that adds a layer of complexity in that we would need to know the TCP/IP address of each PC ahead of time. Every time a new PC was added at a clients site, we would have to somehow know the new TCP/IP address of that PC. This doesn't seem workable (but maybe someone has some ideas?). Currently, we are using CPYTOPCD to the IFS and mapping a drive to get it to the PC. But you can't map a drive without cliend access. Any ideas? How about what manuals to describe the process (or is it really easy and we are just dense?).
