Paxar Monarch 9640 label printer

We've got a Paxar Monarch 9640 label printer attached via serial cable to an
IDEA 5250 dumb terminal; the Paxar is emulating a 5219 printer.  On the 400,
the device is defined as a 5219-D1.

The problem is that the printer keeps going offline.  The printer itself has
only two indicators, a power light and a Ready light; they are both solid
green.  The emulation display on the IDEA is showing that the printer is
offline.  When we reset, then set to online (on the emulation display), the
printer stays online for about 10 seconds, then goes offline again.  The
printer itself does nothing, both lights stay green, etc.  The message on the
400 is CPA4018: "Operator action required on device S132P2."

Is anybody else using this label printer as an AS/400 printer?  If so, how is
it defined on the 400?  How is it connected to the 400?
