Thanks for your thoughts guys... I already have a method for controlling FTP using RPGIV. This involves writing the FTP commands to an FTP INPUT member, calling the FTP OS/400 command, and then reading the FTP OUTPUT member and analysing the results. Its quite neat and I've used it at several clients. I am just looking for a smarter way of doing it. Because the environment for this assignment is quite complex, i.e. AS/400 <> ISP <> Dial In LAPTOP(s) I needed a decent file handshake. I have developed this on paper, based on batching data in a unique file, renaming the file's extension after upload and only downloading files with the renamed extension (both ways). To do this using my current method is fully achievable but just a bit complicated. If there were APIs of RPGIV routines that could directly access the FTP commands (rather than going via the input file & FTP command method) it would make things a lot simpler. Chris Bipes has indicated that there are but it would take 3 months+ to develop. Surely there must be some programming examples available? Thanks also for the on and off list offers of products. I am a great believer in not re-inventing the wheel but the project that I am working on, or at least the comms part of it, is too small scale to warrant buying any commercial product, especially as I already have a working method of doing this. Come on guys at IBM - FTP is an industry standard; We're on the frontline so lets have some decent documentation and examples of how to implement it on OS/400.
