Thanks to those who suggested rtvdskinf and prtdskinf. I'm doing it now. Chkdsk in DOS would give you a summary of disk usage that was pretty darned useful if what you wanted was a summary for an entire partition. It included a breakdown of usage including files and non files--lost clusters, etc. DOS 5 and later gave you the S parameter which included subdirectories and a sum of space used by files at the end.
