Paul, Are you saying that I do NOT need some add-on for the printer to print the fonts? I received a firmware patch to the I-O Corp box to allow for MICR printing. Would not having the MICR toner cartridge cause the printer to send a negative response to MICR printing capabilities? Thanks:) "Paul Tykodi" <Pdt@nh.ultranet.com> on 10/29/2000 07:11:26 PM Please respond to <paul@intermate-us.com> To: <Steve_Sharpe@ENGELHARD.COM> cc: Fax to: Subject: Re: MICR printing Dear Steve, I am attending Xplor so I can only receive but not respond to midrange-l posts because my e-mail ID changes when I am on the road. The problem you are experiencing will need to be fixed for you within the I-O Corp device. The IPDS data stream is bi-directional and the host that will be releasing output asks many questions of the target printer before a spool file can be delivered. One of the questions that will be asked of the printing device is MICR capability Y/N? If the IPDS capable print device answers No (the default for this answer), you will get the messages that you have appended into your e-mail and you will not be able to send the spool file to that particular printer. Many third party print servers that support IPDS printing capabilities include a parameter that allows an end user to set the MICR answer to either Yes or No depending upon their application requirements. This is the feature that you need to enable or that you need added to your I-O 5435. Also please remember that after you can send the spool file to the device, you will need the special magnetic toner cartridge for the HP printer as well to make the characters readable to the scanners used in the banking industry.
