Mike,

We use Kronos in our environment. Kronos offers PC based and AS/400 based
solutions. We use their AS/400 based solution and are very satisfied. We are
currently using twinax attached clocks but they do offer ETH and TRN solutions.
We implemented this three years ago and twinax was the only way to accomplish
it. We have 18 remote locations with 5494's and existing TWX wiring. We also
use their GateKeeper product in certain situations and will most likely expand
it.

You can get information from their website at www.kronos.com.

Our rep. here in Indiana is Brenda Edwards. She can be reached at 317-202-6705
or bedwards@kronos.com. I've not dealt with her but a number of people at our
company have.

My organization needs to implement a timeclock system to eliminate the
current paper process used by part-time staff and all student workers.
A lot of individual departments are looking at standalone PC clock
systems and of course they all found a different version that they like.
I have been asked to find a single system that will provide campus wide
timeclock solution.

Our environment is....
AS/400 720 - lots of spare disk and CPU time - 2 100MB ethernet NICs
25+ Novell Netware Servers for email, file and print sharing
Full campus wide ethernet network (including 3 remote sites)
AS/400 and Netware servers share data via FTP controlled from the
AS/400
LAWSON Payroll
All employees and students have mag stripe and bar-coded id cards
8 In-house AS/400 experienced programmers and technical staff.

I believe the best solution would be ethernet connected mag stripe
readers for timeclocks that can do immediate relay to the AS/400 or
store local for later transmission in case the AS/400 is down for
backup/upgrade and the rare but happen repairs. With management
applications on the AS/400 to allow review, supervisor approval,
reporting and transfer into our LAWSON Payroll.

Has anyone out there implemented this type of system and if so how did
you do it and what hardware/software do you use ?
