>> Our home computers are not used exclusively for dialing into the office & funding for security typically comes out of our personal budgets, and many home computer users lack the same awareness of security topics that the central MIS is supposed to have, and everyone is an expert until they get burned, so they are not going to pay attention to any advice from MIS anyway. We need to all make a concerted effort to make sure anyone accessing our systems from home has a basic awareness of PC security and viruses. Protection in the home does not need to be costly. Several shareware packages that I highly recommend are: ZoneAlarm - http://www.zonealarm.com/ - a personal firewall that can be downloaded and setup up very easily Housecall.Antivirus - http://housecall.antivirus.com/ - An online virus scanning service that can check out a PC ShieldsUp - //grc.com/default.htm - runs a set of tests to find out just how exposed a PC is Employees who can't adhere to a base security policy should NOT be given home access to our systems!!! (Sorry, about the lecture, but you hit one of my hot buttons...)
