One way is to use the SQL CLI interface. This is how I have done it
and then I make a program to serve as a SPECIAL device so that mere
mortals can use this :-) Check out the Red Book so often quoted "Who
knew you could do that..." There is a good section on using the SQL
CLI and note, you do not have to have the SQL development kit to use
it.
