Don, There are three logical choices for development environment. Inprise, IBM and Allaire. WebSphere Studio is everything to everybody, including AS/400 programmers. IBM has many versions, but the $300 WebSphere Development Tools is a good starting point unless you are going to be doing EJBs. The AS/400 developers that added the AS/400 extensions to Studio did a great job for a first release, I expect that it will keep getting better. Allaire's ColdFusion, Jrun Studio, and Homesite are fast and easy to use but do not target AS/400 environments. I have not used Jbuilder in over two years, but I understand it is worth looking at. David Morris >>> dr2@cssas400.com 12/20/00 11:36AM >>> client does...get them off the ground running cheaply then once they have their feet wet move on to heavier stuff...and they don't need a "hot fission" (eah, cold fussion) development environ, plus IBM keeps telling them how the 400 is web server enabled... Also, they don't need to punch up a online order entry/POS system from day 1 either... and given how cheaply they can get FP, and how cheap and readily available education is for FP here in DC, why not... And, this brings up the next logical progression question: Preferences for web development environs... I'ld also be interested in hearing comments on web development tools, costs, benefits/drawbacks/compatabilithy issues from folks that are heavy into this part of the world... thanks...
