Ok, Dan, i understand.
Anyway, CL reference manual definitely says:

omissis ......
   Selecting certain records to be copied using one of the following
methods:
     -   Selecting a particular format in a logical file that has more than
one record format (RCDFMT parameter).

"
 
That's enough for me.  Don't you think so ?

Domenico, look at the help for the parameter.  Also refer to the CL
reference.
 Yes, the parameter *is* labeled "Record format of logical file", but all
the
documentation implies that physical files are somehow eligible for
specifying
a record format name for this parameter.

This isn't a show-stopper for me.  I'm just wondering if there's something
lurking in DB2 that I missed.

Dan, why do you say that  RCDFMT is applicable to PF too ?
My italian prompted CPYF command says extacly the same as english one:

=====> Formato record file logico . . . RCDFMT         *ONLY
