If you are an RPG/400 person "moving up" may I suggest Paul Tuohy's book?
Order it through Midrange.com and you support the list server. Other books
are available there as well. Go to http://www.as400.ibm.com and take the
library link and download the redbook "Who Knew You Could Do That..."

Personally, the first thing I'd do is to look at the system and see if they
have any service programs. If not, they're probably NOT using ILE, just RPG
IV. Before compiling a program, do a DSPPGM on it and see what modules and
service programs are being used.

You're probably going to understand the RPG IV code intuitively. Jump in,
take a look around, visit the manual for an explanation of the Built In
Functions you come across.

Finally, there's plenty of help available for specifics on the RPG400-L
list, also hosted by David. You can scan the archives for things that seem
new in the code.
