We use Gumbo Spoolmail for internal and external addresses.

I think that you might wish to talk with Gumbo about the requirements for
external customers.

I am working on a project to add e-mail features to existing AS/400 green
screen applications - Order acknowledgements, order status, etc. to
external customers. The client is already using SpoolMail product to
e-mail spool files to internal employees in PDF format.

We've been using a product called NETSEND. It's very affordable and easy
to use from CL programs etc. I would look into it, I would consider
doing it my self as "Reinventing the wheel". You will spend more
time(hence money) than just buying NETSEND or something like it.

BTW, I have no affilliations with NETSEND nor do I or my relatives work
for them. I am just a happy user.

I think their site is.

-----------------------------------

I have been trying to send hard coded test messages to myself using the
SNDDST command and the SpoolMail commands, but so far, everything ends up
as an attachment. The request is for standard e-mail, not attachments. I
haven't tried the Long Message option in SNDDST yet, but only 5000
characters may not always be enough. I tried to send an HTML message as a
*FILE, and it ended up as an attachment with a non-standard file suffix
(.AT or something like this) so windows had to ask what to open it with.

The existing SpoolMail e-mails are sent to an internal mail router. I
would like to send the AS/400 e-mails directly to the Internet. I would
also need the ability to identify any rejected messages.

I have looked at a few articles and some of the manuals, but nothing seems
to fit the desired results so far.

Am I on the right track? What are you folks using? Another package, home
grown HTML, or ???
