Ken:
Send it to me and I will have it added to the download section of our site.
We are using a zillion different methods for connecting to customers over
the internet, generally the client specifies the connection. I probably
have every VPN client known to man on my PC, but I usually use the PCOM
emulator, although I do not use CA, except where required (like ops
navigator).

Carl... We don't publish or publicize Socket Sidewinder on our site, if
that's your question.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't host it on a FTP site.

Have you tried it yet? If you can get your customers to install it,
you'll be able to connect to their AS/400 in a matter of seconds without
actually putting the AS/400 'on the Net'. The savings in network hardware
and long distance charges easily justifies the use of Socket Sidewinder and
Mocha. Your customers can use it and Mocha, but make sure they understand
this is a TN5250 session only and is definitely not a replacement to
CA/400.

Carl... No credit, no crap is required or allowed.

Since this was a recent topic regarding 5250 to the AS/400, I thought I
might respond again as well. Last time I made an 'simple offer' to the
group and many of you took me up on it. I had the group email me at
mailto:ken@cm-inc.com to get a copy for free. The only condition was to not
involve much of my time and that certainly has been the case.

What is Socket Sidewinder?
We at CMI use and have our customers use Socket Sidewinder. I wrote
Socket Sidewinder myself as I was dabbling with code in Visual Basic. What
this program essentially does is respond and control TCP/IP connections and
data streams. I listens for a connection on a configurable port and
establishes a connection to a different IP address and port. Using it and
Mocha TN5250, the Telnet client connects to Socket Sidewinder on an obscure
port (we use a four digit number to minimize compatibility issues). This
obscure port is configured in the advanced options of Mocha connection
dialog boxes. Having an obscure port 'hides' the Telnet capabilities but a
'Port Sniffer' can find it. Upon connection Socket Sidewinder itself
connects to the AS/400's port 23. Once connection the connections are
established, Winsock data arrival are 'redirected' to the partner
connection.

Using Socket Sidewinder does not require any network address translation or
proxy unless the PC run it requires one to connect to either the AS/400 or
the Internet. We at CMI run ours on an NT server but I've been able to use
it on my Windows 98 machine at home.

BTW... If any of you who downloaded, installed and configured had any or no
success, let me know. Feedback is a great design tool. For those of you who
might want a copy as well, the 'simple offer' still stands.

As is the answer with most things.... it depends. On your PC you need a
5250 emulator. See www.mochsoft.dk. On the 400 it really depends on how
the connection to the internet is made, if your AS400 is behind a firewall,
or proxy server. You need to talk to your network guys to see if the AS400
has an external IP address, or if there is a specific port on your
router/firewall/proxy server that will forward telnet requests to port 23
on
the AS/400. If can supply more info, I'm sure someone can help.

I just reread your message, and am now confused as to exactly what you are
asking. Are you looking to start a 5250 session inside a web page (again
mochasoft has a java client that you can load in a browser) , or use your
web browser as the client (like using WSG)

I am trying to connect to an AS400 VIA the WEB. I can
be on the AS400 and ping a website like YAHOO for
instance. I know how to set up client access at home
to get attached to an AS400 remotely via the web.
What do I need to configure on the AS400 in order to
be at home using my DSL line and connect?
