don't know if you already got an answer.
5294 & 5494 are diff in the versions of the
sna pu level, and diff ru packet sizes (got
that from the '94 version of the AS/400 Handbook).
Even so, the various IBM 5250 devices worked
on both. I can remember several times non-IBM
vendors had chip ugrades to get them to work as
the faster remote equip came out. Have you tried
the 5494 in "5294 mode"? Just to see if that
works (at 19.2). Is this a true IBM 5494? Which
model? Model 1 & 2 had some differences.
