We've got two P300's using QMS Magnum boards...

The only thing that I can think of is that maybe you're not sending it
the codes that tell it to "turn the magnum board on"?   At the start of
the magnum code, you should have something like  "^PY^-"  to turn the
board on.

From that point on, each line must end with "^-" or it won't know that
you've reached the end of the line... thats also worth checking.

If this doesn't help, could you send me your code?  or at least what
it's sending to the printer?
