Art, Good luck selling it. Maybe I'm wrong about the Model 500, but we tried to sell a Model 300 with 16 Gig and didn't even get a reply from the used AS/400 vendors. IBM was willing to give us $1600 as part of an equipment replacement deal. In our situation, we upgraded to a Model 720 and moved our operating system to the new box which meant that legally we had to remove the OS from the Model 300. Try to sell one without an OS! I wish you better luck than we had. Sorry about the confusion on cables, I was trying to discribe a missing cable but wasn't sure what it looked like. So to sum this up, where can I sell an AS400? The lease is up so you be buying it outright. It's a Model 500, 20 gig hard drive, V3R7. It is around 3 or 4 years old. What would this be worth? The first question is, did the box have a twinax or async console? I assume from the way you describe things that it had the latter. You need the 'plate' thing with 2 connectors sticking up out of it (I never know how to describe them either) really, plus the special cable for the async console which plugs into a specific port of the plate (can't remember which of the two ports). I suspect you need to find some friendly local site who'll lend you these bits, get a console going for a little while, just enough to change the box startup program to start TCP/IP automatically, assuming it's not doing so at present (also, if I were you, I'd configure an SNA connection to the box from one of your others, if you have any other AS/400s, just in case TCP/IP doesn't start properly - then if all else fails you can get in using passthru). I reckon you will need the async console program which is shipped as one of the components of Client Access. I don't suppose the box still has an SNA connection configured from somewhere else that you can track down and use without worrying about all these cables? I remember the ethernet cable, coming from the model 500, was plugged into one of the terminals with one of those big connectors with the two pins in it (this is one of those things easier to look at then explain). Then another connector was used for the terminal. Anyway, the connector needed for the ethernet cable to connect to the loon box (port connector) is gone, it left with another company on a different machine. Any other way to do this?
