Justin, There are lots of ways to do what you ask. You might get more replies if you were more specific about what you need to do. 1) Windows terminal would not be very good for working on AS/400, but if you wanted to use it you could probably dial into an ASCII workstation controller with a modem attached to it. You could use an old copy of Client Access or Personal Communications 5250 with SNA support to dial directly to SDLC line on 400, but you would need synchronous hardware on your PC. IMO, you would be better off to configure a PPP connection on the 400, use Windows DUN to dial into it, and use Client Access or other TN5250 emulator for your terminal. 2) What do you want to do over the dialup connection? You could use SNA/SDLC and then you would have several solid built in connectivity applications (display passthrough, SNADS, DDM, etc). You could also use TCP/IP and its applications. If you really want to dial a BBS, you could create an async line, controller, and device and use ITF as your terminal program (STRITF). If you want your 400 to act like a BBS or talk to a BBS programmatically, you will need to buy or write some async software to do it. -Marty Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 14:37:08 -0600 From: "Haase, Justin C." <Justin.Haase@Kingland.com> Subject: Two remote access questions Folks, I checked out the archives before this post, found a lot of stuff, but not much with specifics on these two questions. Wondering if anyone has a link to a page with instructions to do this or whatnot. Here goes. 1. Is it possible to dial-in with your PC direct to the AS/400 and have a terminal session - Like just using the Windows terminal program? 2. Is it possible to have a 400 dial out to either another AS/400 (see question 1) or to a BBS? Thanks in advance for any assistance w/ this. Justin C.
