Hi Midrange,
Seems like a very nice list ... kudos..
Simple questions here (maybe) ..
Really I am still a 36 programmer and developer
(*still* prefer POP to PDM tho I do like the AS/400 SEU now :-)
And I don't do a lot of string manipulation, so I haven't seen any RPG
3 advantages :-)
<ready to be dumped on now> .... hey.. I naturally normalize......
Let's start with an AS/400 operating systems questions ..
25 users.. one location, still basically all 36 code except
use a few AS/400 menus.... light maintenance and development
for a food importer....
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) History File on 36 was so simple and straightforward for OCL logging..
Is there a comparable way to log OCL statements in the AS/400 ?
2) Any way to simplify the spool facility to have some of the neato
simplicity
of ye olde VASP ....
3) PDM enhancements .. "I like POP" ...
eg. I don't see how you can do an object string search on "part" of a
library
...eg.. all members with "*cash*" in the 25 search mode..
(yes, I acknowledge that the actual search is neat)
... and the POP File command .. 1 entry usage "FILE CASHQ", can that
be emulated...?
instead of entering PDM/Objects/Write in QS36F and File Name/etc
4) Simplest explanation of how to restore a 36 File if the Save was done
in AS/400 command mode... <embarrassed to ask>
5) Favorite relatively simple program generator for AS/400
I used to use the Monahan (or was it Kisco for awhile) DFU to RPG
converter on the S/36 and found it was a pretty good starting point ...
... probably still exists on AS/400, as one of a few alternatives ?
Other fav suggestions without a hefty price tag and cleanish
generated code...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3rd Party Utilities will be considered
I do have one of the books on AS/400 for 36 folks, CL/OCL comparisons etc..
... however it has little depth.....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
also
1) Best way to unload a Geniecom 4940 printer or get it to properly
go in and out of CPI-15 mode
2) best way to find an I-O 2677C monitor (only need the main piece)
Yeah.. I may start calling the Computer Hotline type people... :-)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you..
Careful.. if you help me with these.... a few more will be forthcoming !
